What is Kinesio Taping?

The Kinesio Taping Method has been taking the Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine world by storm thanks to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and volleyball gold medalist Kerry Walsh. You would be hard pressed to find professional sporting event without some of the athletes utilizing Kinesio Tape. Developed 25 years ago, by Dr. Kenzo Kase, it has become the gold standard for therapeutic rehabilitative taping. Our proprietary method utilizes a uniquely designed patented tape for treatment of pain syndromes, muscular disorders, joint dysfunction and swelling reduction.

The Kinesio Taping Method involves taping over and around wakened muscles in order to assist and give support while maintaining full range of motion, which enables the patient/athlete to participate in their usual activities. Overactive muscles can be taped to reduce spasm and limit contraction. The 4 major effects of Kinesio Taping are: 1) Correct Muscle Function 2) Improve Circulation 3) Pain Relief and 4) Joint Repositioning. Kinesio Tape can be used in combination with other therapies.

Kinesio Taping affects the activation of the neurological system, the body’s information processor, through the muscular system- by treating the muscles the body’s own healing processes can be activated. Kinesio Taping helps this process and is a revolutionary aproach to treating muscular, joint, and nerve disorders.

Since the introduction of Kinesio Taping into the U.S., doctors and therapists have embraced this safe and effective treatment modality. The Kinesio Tape allows the patient/athlete to receive the therapeutic benefit 24 hours per day for quick and long lasting results. Dr. Sandahl uses Rocktape.
